Shorter Work Week

Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 3 and San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma Trade Union Health and Welfare and Pension Fund Offices: OPEIU Local 3 negotiated a 32-hour work week without loss of pay consisting of four to four and one-half days, depending on the work site.

Communications, Energy and Paperworkers' Union and Bell Canada: CEPU and Bell Canada negotiated a four-day work week that allows staff members to work four nine-hour days per week as an alternative to impending layoffs. Employees only lose two hours of pay per week.

Canadian Auto Workers and Chrysler Canada: CAW bargained to reduce regular daily hours from eight to seven-and-a-half with no reduction in pay.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1136 and Phillip Lighting Co. in Little Rock, Arkansas: IBEW Local 1136 negotiated several shift options in their contract with Phillip Lighting Co: (1) 10 hours per day, 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday; (2) 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, Monday to Friday; (3) The weekend shift is Friday to Sunday. Friday- 12 hours, Saturday-8 hours and Sunday-8 hours. This work week is 28 hours of work at full pay. Overtime for weekend shift employees is paid for hours other than their regularly scheduled workweek at time and one-half up to 12 hours and double after 12 hours.
