Paid family leave may be taken for maternity, paternity or adoption of a child, for a serious health condition of the employee or to care for a family member with a serious health condition, as provided for under the FMLA. The contact expands the definition of family for purposes of family leave.

Every effort is made through labor/management problem-solving to ensure 13 weeks paid leave for birth mothers. Birth fathers and adoptive parents may take four weeks paid leave at 70-100% of salary depending on length of service. All new dads who will be the primary caregivers for all part of the first 13 weeks after the birth or adoption of a child may also take 13 weeks leave. This leave may be paid by using vacation, personal time, and the four weeks paid leave. All new parents may take up to one year unpaid parental leave of absence.
