Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild Local 35 & Bureau of National Affairs, Inc: Local 35 negotiated a bereavement leave with pay of up to 37.5 hours in the event of the death of a spouse, child, step-child, parent, step-parent, parent-in-law, one acting as a parent, or co-habitating life-partner. Leave of up to 22.5 hours in the event of the death of a grandparent, brother, or sister. An additional 7.5 hours of bereavement leave is granted to employees required to travel outside the continental United States to attend the funeral of one of the aforementioned parties
Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers and Harvard University: HUCTW, an AFSCME affiliate, won three days paid bereavement leave for the death of a husband, wife, son, daughter, stepchildren, grandchildren, father and mother-in-law, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, brother and sister-in-law, or any individuals regularly sharing the employee’s residence. Longer paid leave may be allowed in cases of logistical difficulty or extreme emotional distress. Paid leave also may be allowed in exceptional circumstances for mourning the death of a person whose relationship to the employee does not fit the above description.
