Adoption Leave

American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees Local 11 & State of Ohio: AFSCME negotiated for a period up to ten (10) working days of sick leave to be allowed for parenting during the postnatal period or following an adoption.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245 and Pacific Gas & Electric: The IBEW Local 1245 won up to eight hours of paid time off for employees to make court appearances in the course of adopting a child. Time off may be taken in increments of one hour or more. This time off is part of an agreement between IBEW and PG&E for an adoption assistance program. Under the program employees would be reimbursed up to $2,000 for adoption-related expenses, including: legal fees, court costs , agency fees and transportation.

Office and Professional Employees International Union and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Western New York: OPEIU negotiated for up to six months leave for members upon the adoption of a child.
