FMLA as Paid Leave

Service Employees International Union Local 535 and Board of Directors of the Labor Project for Working Families: The Labor Project for Working Families, represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 535, negotiated for 12 weeks paid family leave for eligible employees as defined by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Paid family leave may be taken for maternity, paternity or adoption of a child, for a serious health condition of the employee or to care for a family member with a serious health condition, as provided for under the FMLA. Health, dental, vision, life insurance and long term disability insurance coverage will continue to be paid during family leave. The contract expands the definition of family for purposes of family leave.

Service Employees International Union Local 1877 and Apcoa Inc: SEIU Local 1877 negotiated a clause which allows employees the option to roll over any unused sick/personal leave at the end of each year to a maximum of 21 days to be used for paid Family and Medical Leave. FMLA time will be deducted from accrued vacation and/or sick and personal leave however employees have the right to designate which type of leave (vacation, sick, personal) will be utilized first for FMLA. The contract covers parking cashiers who work at the San Jose Airport.
