Sick Time for Family Members

International Union of Operating Engineers Local 564 and Texas Dow: IUOE Local 564 negotiated a donated leave policy with Texas Dow, under which employees may use five of their personal sick leave days to care for an ill or injured spouse or child. Employees may use these days in one-half day increments.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 266 (District) and Salt River Project: IBEW Local 266 won the right for eligible members to use sick time to transport an ill dependent living with the member to receive necessary medical treatment. Members may also use up to five sick days to care for a disabled spouse, parent or person acting as parent, or a cohabiting life-partner with a physician's statement showing the disability of the family member.

Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers and Harvard University: HUCTW, an AFSCME affiliate, negotiated with the university to allow members to use up to 12 of their own sick days each year to care for sick dependents.
