Resource and Referral

United Auto Workers and Michigan Blue Cross-Blue Shield: UAW negotiated a 1-800 telephone service to provide employees with information, referrals, education and consultation to meet their family care needs. Employees experiencing child care, elder care, adult care and other such needs can access the service. Each location will be provided with on-site consultation with a family care expert each week.

Communication Workers of America/International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and ATandT: CWA negotiated a national community-based Child Care Resource and Referral Service (CCRS) to be engaged by the Company to help employees locate, evaluate and manage quality child care for children under the age of 13. This service is provided by a professional organization charged with the responsibility of locating existing services and, if necessary, canvassing for new providers of child-care service. Information concerning costs, hours of operation, location, transportation and curriculum is provided to employees via a dial-up contact number.

United Auto Workers and General Motors Corp: Child Care Resource and Referral Services are now offered throughout the entire UAW-GM system. Full-time and/or part-time child-care consultants are available at facilities requesting the services.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245 and Pacific Gas and Electric Company: IBEW Local 1245 bargained with PGandE to establish a Child Care Resource and Referral Program, available to all employees. The program helps parents find the right solution for their specific needs: a child care center in their community, an in-house caregiver or a child care provider for sick children. The program provides a child care referral hot-line and information to help employees evaluate caregivers.

United Auto Workers and DaimlerChrysler: The UAW and DaimlerChrysler provide a telephone access Resource and Referral Program to assist members in finding quality care for children and adult dependents. The Program provides information on request to employees who have latch-key children specifically on latch-key issues. Members with eldercare responsibilities can get information on eldercare within 24 hours anywhere in country. The Program will provide them with lists of agencies, costs, and a contact person at the agency they are calling. The program also offers educational information on general parenting topics.
